Prof. Jan Grabowski

The AJA sponsored the Jewish Quarterly’s August 2024 issue featuring Prof. Jan Grabowski’s essay on ‘Whitewash: Poland and the Jews’’.

A professor of history at the University of Ottawa, Prof. Grabowski spoke about his remarkable work which examines and critiques how the Holocaust is remembered in modern day Poland. His talk also explored the phenomenon of historical distortions that challenge the truth of the Holocaust.

The Jewish Quarterly is an independent publication that explores Jewish issues, and issues of humanity from a Jewish perspective. It was re-launched in 2021 and distributed and accessible worldwide. It now publishes single-article editions.

The lecture was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Martin Winstone, Head of Education and Senior Historical Advisor to the Holocaust Educational Trust and Project Historian for the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation, and Prof Michael Fleming, historian and professor at the Polish University Abroad in London. Maiken Umbach, Professor of Modern History and chief advisor at the National Holocaust Centre and Museum, introduced Prof Grabowski. The Centre’s Rapid Racism Unit is sponsored by the AJA.
